Most interesting 20 printers of the year

Minggu, 26 Januari 2014

Noted printer reviewer M. David Stone has authored a most interesting slide show that can be found at the eWeek web site entitled "The 20 Most Interesting Printers of 2007 (So Far)". He highlights products from HP (NYSE HPQ) (eight models total, including five based on traditional inkjet technology, two on laser, and then the new Edgeline inkjet), Canon (four total mentions), Lexmark NYSE LXK) and Xerox (NYSE XRX) (two models each), and filling in with Dell, Epson, Eastman Kodak Company, and Memjet (all one model each). The latter one, Silverbrook Researchs Memjet, is the exception in the group of 20, in that it represents a technology as opposed to a currently shipping product, but certainly has stimulated enough discussion in the business to deserve a place on the list.

This excellent recap has been out there for a few weeks but Id missed it, until led into the EWeek.com sites printer area by the provocative headline, "Health Workers Addicted to Black and White", which covers the same Lexmark research I covered last week.

Yes Virginia there are printers at Demo2009!

Sabtu, 25 Januari 2014

Please forgive me for the headline of this post, but as a long-time (decade-and-a-half) Demo conference attendee, sometimes it does feel a little bit like getting a glimpse of Santa when an actual printer shows up at this famed technology conference!

While Ive been coming for the last 15 years, first as an employee with a printing industry leader, and more recently as a reporter/blogger covering the business, the mission has never been to find the latest and greatest new hard copy device (though there are exceptions, see "Zinking in from Demo2007"). Its more about the broader technology field, and what trends and developments might help, or hurt, the printing and imaging field. (And again, I have several of those from Demo2009 yet to be analyzed, so readers, please check back for over the next day or two.)

But its still a bit of a pleasure when a printer shows up in one of the exhibits. In this case (see photo, lower left hand corner), its in Booth#17, Home-Account Inc, a company demoing their solution to "help America’s 75 million homeowners take control of their largest assets and use them to insure their financial security, likely saving hundreds of dollars per month in the process."

I have yet to have a personal conversation with the company, so stay tuned. But it figures that this application area, home mortgages, needs hard copy, and thus the HP (NYSE HPQ) LaserJet as part of their demonstration!
