How to make the PVC glue stronger

Senin, 27 Januari 2014

How to keep hold strong on the PVC pipe joints?

1. First before applying the glue, create a rough surface on the PVC where the glue is to be applied using a tool like rough sand paper or anything tool with rough edges (metal file). This is to prevent the smooth surface of the PVC to cause the glue slip away when water pressure is strong.

2. Apply Teflon tape if necessary to seal any gaps and keep the joint tights.

3. After that apply the glue and connect the joints together. Make sure it is tight, if not add more taps and glue again. Once it is done heat ups the area where the glue is apply using blowtorch or (lighter or candles). Be careful not to use too much heat until the PVC melt, just enough to chemically bond the glue together with the PVC. Then leave it for 10 to 15 minutes the joint will be as strong as if the pipe without joint.

Note that using fire (lighter or candles) also can be used to loosen the joints of the PVC. Especially for old pipeline.

Most interesting 20 printers of the year

Minggu, 26 Januari 2014

Noted printer reviewer M. David Stone has authored a most interesting slide show that can be found at the eWeek web site entitled "The 20 Most Interesting Printers of 2007 (So Far)". He highlights products from HP (NYSE HPQ) (eight models total, including five based on traditional inkjet technology, two on laser, and then the new Edgeline inkjet), Canon (four total mentions), Lexmark NYSE LXK) and Xerox (NYSE XRX) (two models each), and filling in with Dell, Epson, Eastman Kodak Company, and Memjet (all one model each). The latter one, Silverbrook Researchs Memjet, is the exception in the group of 20, in that it represents a technology as opposed to a currently shipping product, but certainly has stimulated enough discussion in the business to deserve a place on the list.

This excellent recap has been out there for a few weeks but Id missed it, until led into the EWeek.com sites printer area by the provocative headline, "Health Workers Addicted to Black and White", which covers the same Lexmark research I covered last week.

Latest Zink Milestone PC Mag on the Polaroid PoGo

Sabtu, 25 Januari 2014

The Zink/Polaroid partnership announced at January 2008s Consumer Electronics Show has borne fruit, in the form of shipping product, at least review units, and one of the first made its way to my favorite reviewer, PC Magazines M. David Stone. In his June 4 review, David shares some interesting findings on the new $150 Polaroid PoGo Instant Mobile Printer thats based on Zinks "Zero Ink" technology. Ive covered Zink "early and often", including their Demo 2007 launch to the CES 2008 partnership announcement.

In addition to his usual hands-on insights, Stone offers a great perspective on the corporate positioning at work here with Polaroid and the PoGo.
Aside from the obvious change to digital technology, the one big difference between the Polaroid experience then and now is that its not about the camera. Its about the printer. The premise is that many, if not most, people are walking around with their own cameras, often in the form of cell phones, so all thats missing is a printer. Polaroid has added the missing piece, so you can print from PictBridge cameras, as well as from phones and other devices that can print via Bluetooth.

Its also interesting that the usual printer trade-offs that industry denizens have to come to know and love understandably shift a bit when defining a new product category. For example, print quality (PQ), in this case, the color fidelity in the 2"x3" prints from mobile-phone-captured photos, may not be paramount. Stones somewhat forgiving of PQ that he calls "far from ideal", accepting that it may be ok in this format and application, and factors such as water and scratch resistance weigh heavily on the positive side.

A great and informative, if a bit mixed, review as well as a major milestone for Zink.
